Getting tubes tied after delivery?

I dont know if it just different from doctor to doctor or if its new hospital policy, but i have a friend that just had a baby and her dr. wouldnt tie her tubes right after delivery. correction...if she had an epidural she would have to wait 6 weeks. if she didnt have a epidural they could do it right after birth. something about to much pain meds. they put you to sleep when they do the tubal. has anyone else been through this? i want to get my tubes tied after my baby is born, and dont want to wait 6 weeks. i guess if this is the case with my dr. then i wont get the epidural. of course i will ask at my next app. but just wondering if other people have had to choose too?! thank you
